Petr Yan Early life
Petr Yan was conceived by a Russian mother and a Chinese-Russian father. Yan started learning ITF Taekwon-do in the sixth grade, and his family frequently relocated to try and stop the fights that frequently broke out in the neighborhood’s streets and schools. In the Krasnoyarsk Krai city of Dudinka, Yan’s older brother had boxing training, and Petr was interested in learning the sport as well.

In December 2014, Petr Yan made his MMA debut at the Eurasian Fighting Championship – Baikal Fight. Murad Bakiev, a newcomer, was defeated by him in the third round via knockout. Yan entered into a contract with the Russian organization Absolute Championship Berkut in 2015. After his promotion debut, when he faced off against Brazilian fighter Renato Velame, who at the time had previously fought 26 times in his MMA career, he reportedly won a large number of admirers. Petr Yan (born 11 February 1993) is a Russian professional mixed martial artist competing in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is a former UFC Bantamweight Champion and the current Interim UFC Bantamweight Champion. Petr Yan defeated Murad Kalamov on October 24, 2015, by unanimous decision. Yan was given the chance to compete against Magomed Magomedov for the bantamweight title belt thanks to the victory.
At ACB 32: “The Battle of Lions” on March 26, 2016, in Moscow, Yan fought Magomed Magomedov. At UFC 267, a rematch with Sterling was planned for October 30, 2021. Sterling, though, pulled out of the competition on September 25 because of persisting neck problems. When Cory Sandhagen was forced out of the fight, the Interim UFC Bantamweight Title was at stake. Yan won the match by unanimous decision. The Fight of the Night trophy was won by this match.
On March 5, 2022, at UFC 272, a title unification rematch with Aljamain Sterling was set. But on January 11, 2022, it was revealed that the contest had been postponed and will now occur on April 9 at UFC 273.
