Ruturaj Gaikwad made his debut for the Maharashtra cricket team in the Ranji Trophy in 2015. He made an immediate impact, scoring 123 runs on his debut against Jammu and Kashmir. Over the next few seasons, Gaikwad established himself as one of the top batsmen in the Maharashtra team and played a key role in their success.
In the 2018-19 season, Gaikwad scored 444 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a domestic one-day competition in India, at an average of 63.42. His performances helped Maharashtra reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. The following year, he was even more impressive, scoring 818 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 90.88, including four centuries and three fifties.
